Clicking the Import button on the bottom will present you with a couple of options, we'll briefly go over each one.

Empty Map

Map import 03.jpg

This open create a blank page just as if you had opened a graph paper tablet.

  • Name - The name as you wish it to appear in the Library and other lists.
  • Module - The module the map belongs to. This is helpful for searching your map list and sorting.
  • Size - is the map grid XY size.
  • Grid, Canvas & FOW Buttons - These buttons pull up a color picker allowing you to set the color of the selected option.

Image from Clipboard

Map import 04.jpg

This is exactly as "Image from File" (below) except that it uses an image from your OS clipboard rather than opening a file picker dialog to find an image file on your harddrive. This is useful if you have the image you want to use open in your photo editing software at the time.

Image from File

Opens the file picker dialog in order to select a map image file you have downloaded, extracted or created. This needs to be a common image format such as JPG, PNG etc. etc.

Grid and Placement

Map import 05.jpg
  • Image Offset - Allows adjusting the image position relative to the grid.
  • Pixels per Square - Adjusts the size of the grid squares.
    • Rescale checkbox - Adjusts the image scaling relative to the grid squares.
  • Zoom - Adjust your zoom level while working with the current map.
  • Grid, Canvas & FOW Buttons - These buttons pull up a color picker allowing you to set the color of the selected option.
Scaling the image
Develop map1 step5.jpg

If you just can not get the image and grid to line up, you try to use this scaling tool to find out how to adjust your image.

In GIMP, I would goto the Menu Bar and select Image > Scale Image and enter the appropriate values as determined by MapScaleTool or if you prefer not to rely on Excel, here is the tool as a Google Sheet.

Grid and Canvas Color
